I remember being so frustrated at why I couldn’t get a lean, flat stomach…

No matter what I did, I always seemed to have that “bump” around my belly button and my lower tummy seemed to stick out all the time… This was despite working out HARD 5 days per week…

Of course this was before I had been a health and fitness coach for 15+ years, and I back then worked out at the gym just like everyone else…

At the time I asked the trainer that worked at the gym I went to why my abs wouldn’t come out, and being the lovely well meaning person she was, she advised me to:

“Do more cardio” and then showed me a couple of different types of ab exercise…

Needless to say it didn’t work, since cardio and ab exercises have almost nothing to do with seeing your abs…

It took me 3 years to finally work out how to keep my stomach in shape 365 days a year…

I guess some people work it out faster, but I dont have one of those body’s that just “responds”… I had to try something, see how it went, and then make adjustments lowly over time…

SO many little adjustments!

What I ultimately discovered though was pretty awesome! Now you might be thinking that I figured out what food to eat or the exercise to do, and I guess that has something to do with it…

The thing is though, what I eat and how I exercised has CHANGED over the past 10 years SO much… and yet –

I still keep my stomach in shape all day every day!

So what was my discovery? Let’s talk about it…

What I worked out was that MOST of the result came from just a few simple actions done DAILY…

I didn’t need to be super focussed on every little thing that I ate each day…

I didn’t need to thrash myself in the gym…

I didn’t need to give up all my fave “bad” foods…

Really, I just did three simple things each day to lock in the change… Ill share these with you now –

First, I worked out the rough combination of whole foods that worked for my body. It took a little time, but now it makes staying lean easy peasy…

Second, I exercised daily, but balanced out working hard with recovery exercise… I also began to do more exercise that I found FUN rather than just “working out”…

Lastly, I spent some time each day working on my mindset… I revisited my goals or wrote down what I appreciated in life or simply wrote all the crazy that threatened to overwhelm me…

That’s it!

Seriously, that’s it…

I get so frustrated when I see fitness guru’s complicating the whole thing, when its just so simple…

The one thing I wish I had along the way was someone who could have shown me the path sooner… Well shoot, Ill be honest – Im sure they WERE there along the way –

I was just too stubborn to let someone help me…

1. You’re not a vegan or a carnivore – but you might be.

WTF am I talking about? Well here’s the thing, some people can live just on meat… and some can live just on plants… but most are somewhere in the middle.

This is why we dont push keto or vegan or even paleo – because they are bullshit words that dont mean anything unless you want to belong to a club… “Hey, Im from vegan club … the first rule of vegan club is you MUST talk about vegan club…” 😉

The point is that you need to find the rough ratio of foods that works for your body, rather than joining a club because the brochure sounds good.

TIP —> Save yourself the club membership fees and just focus on finding what works rather than making your diet your identity.

2. There are no healthy or unhealthy foods.

There is no such thing as a guaranteed healthy food! All foods have the potential to be good or bad for you. Most people would agree that avocados are good for you right? Well not if youre Stacey and you are ALLERGIC to them and they make your throat swell up!

The same goes for rice or beef or ANY food – its completely 100% UNIQUE to YOU!

TIP —> If you arent losing weight it might be because the foods you think are healthy arent right for YOUR body.

3. Low carb can make you fat.

When Stacey eats low carb she feels like crap, cant string a sentence together and her body looks sort of flat and withered.

When she eats more carbs, she looks brighter and leaner and all sparky in the eyes! Of course Im not talking about processed carbs here – she aint eating much bread or pasta…

Being low carb all the time for most women is a mistake and leads to being a cranky bitch that no one wants to hang out with and for some women – can make them fatter.

A better strategy for most women is to change the amount of carbs they eat each day, including some low days and some higher days.

TIP —> If you’ve been low carb for a while and it aint working, dont keep doing it.

4. Food has life force.

I’m a really sciency guy (except for my use of the word “sciency”) so I dont really like saying things that arent backed by studies, but over the years Ive said all sorts of things that turned out to be true once science caught up, so here I go again –

Errrybody gets so caught up in the vitamins and minerals in food and they are important for sure, but food is more than just nutrition…

It is LIFE.

And to give life it has to HAVE life in it…

Humans get a thing called “taste fatigue” where they stop wanting to eat the same food again. I think its basically natures way of making sure you get a broad range of nutrition and also to stop you being boring…

That being said one of the biggest barriers to consistent weight loss is making 3 frickin’ meals a day!! It just takes too much time and messing around…

TIP —> Cook once and eat twice… Dinner should also be brekky (or at least lunch)

This is what I wrote this morning in my Journal after basically walking out the house and washing my hands for the morning of, well, life…

I feel like years of hard work – late nights, early mornings, tens of thousands of dollars on premium mentoring, trying to juggle the balance of kids and our relationship and having friends and delivering a great service to our clients and occasionally just sitting and sipping a coffee without thinking about the 1000 things currently on my to-do list –

I feel like ALLLL that –

Just isnt going to get us “there”…

Its funny, cos the “there” we are at now was a dream 12 months ago… If you had told me one year ago that we would have achieved everything we have I would have called you a liar!

Still though, its not “there” enough…

And as a result, I’ve found myself thinking more and more about going back to doing things the “right” way.

Back to following the “rules” of business, even though we have built everything we have precisely because we STOPPED following the rules…

But when things get tough, its natural to want to go back to safety…

Back to the known and comfortable way that didnt bring you exactly the results you wanted anyway and that you HATED while you were doing it!

I know at least some way along your weight loss journey you have probably felt this way, or maybe you are feeling it right now…

And I want to say –

KEEP CALM AND KEEP GOING!

This is what has worked for me EVERY time along the way, when the feelings of doubt and defeat have crept in –

Keep going…

When you try a new diet, exercise plan or lifestyle that conflicts with everything you “know” about health and weight loss but to keep doing it the “normal” way or the “scientific” way or the “proper” way just makes you shudder and want to run away –

When it gets so frustrating and all you want to do is go back to what you were doing before – even though the result wasnt what you wanted and you weren’t moving forwards, but at least you know you wouldnt go backwards –

Keep going…

Keep going, Keep Going, KEEP GOING!

You are strong.

You are powerful.

You have everything you need inside and you can do this.

Not even thinking about food because you are so engaged in your favourite hobby is easy!

Many people ask us if its hard to not eat those oh-so-tempting foods… And the truth is that we do eat them sometimes, but for the most part –

We just dont even think about them! We are so busy creating life the way we want it that often we just forget that its time to eat!

I truly believe that every woman who is successful when it comes to creating their ideal body, at some point, creates a way of life that they love rather than habitually eating a certain way that results in weight loss.

You dont have to do it this way of course, you are welcome to spend years trying to work out the exact right ratio of spinach to meat to blueberries to eat at each meal like I see happening all the time…

But if you want to be a rebel…

If you want to be daring and maybe look like a crazy dreamer that doesnt fit into this crazy world…
